What is a Money Market Account?
Money Market Accounts are essentially a type of savings account offered by banks and credit unions. The difference is that they typically pay higher interest, have higher minimum balance requirements, and restrict withdrawals to 3-6 per month. In addition, you do have the ability to write a few checks (usually up to 3) per month.
How does a money market account work?
Just like a regular savings account, a money market account earns interest. Interest on money market accounts is usually compounded daily and paid monthly. Some banks offer higher money market rates because they are trying to attract your deposits. In addition, some banks feature tiered interest structures where you can get higher rates by maintaining higher balances. Make sure you do your research and find the best money market rate before signing up!
Important information about money market accounts
Unlike certificate of deposits, money market accounts let you withdraw money whenever you want. However, the number of withdrawals per month is usually limited. In addition, you must maintain a certain balance in the account or else your rate may drop significantly, or a fee may be charged to your account.
Below you will find a list of the current top money market rates available!
