Bank rates may be out of date. Please check bank websites for current rates.
DollarSavingsDirect.com currently has one of the highest savings account rates available online. They seem to be a subsidiary or spinoff of EmigrantDirect.com, which I have used in the past without any problems.
Some details of the account:
- $1000 minimum opening balance
- Dollar Savings Direct can be linked directly to your checking account
- FDIC insured up to $250,000 per depositor
They also offer pretty decent CD Rates as well, especially with certificate rates falling across the board. Their current CD rate is 3.25% APY for 16 months, with a miniumum balance of $1000. One caveat – you need to open a savings account before you can open a CD account. One nice thing is that you can actually withdraw the interest from your CD into your savings account.

Wow, I signed up for this last month at 4.0%; hopefully it doesn’t keep dropping. I can’t complain though; it’s pretty much the highest out there. I know someone who recently got a notice that their money market was going to stop servicing them and they’d have to switch out since due to this low interest environment, they could no longer assure a positive return.
In this 0% Fed Funds environment, I guess 3.5% is still very good.
Looks like they just dropped to 3.05%
