I’m not a GT Bank customer, so I wasn’t tricked. However, the email looks pretty legitimate, and the link looks legitimate as well. However, if you look at the actual link that the page directs you to, it’ GTBPLE.com and not GTBPLC.com. This is a minor detail that most people would miss, and would likely be tricked into “updating” your account information and conveniently giving away all your information to the scammer. In order to be secure, make sure that you never give away your personal information and always type in the URL to your online banking account rather than clicking links.

It would be easy to be tricked by an email like this, particularly if you held a GT bank account.
I often check my emails at

Dear GTBank customer,
During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedures, we have detected a slight error in your account information.
This might be due to either of the following reasons:
1. A recent change in your personal information (i.e. change of address).
2. Submitting invalid information during the initial sign up process.
3. An inability to accurately verify your selected option of payment due to an internal error within our automated teller machine (ATM) processors.
Please update and verify your information by clicking the link below:

If your account information is not updated within 48 hours then your ability to access your account will become restricted.

I am very saddened at the trend of this online scam by fellow Nigerians; as a Nigerian abroad, I know that our people are very hardworking, but for God’s sake, we do not need this negativity; Nigeria must be grown by Nigerians and we need to cut out all evil ways….I sincerely hope nobody falls for these scams, there are so many techno benefits aside ATM that we can copy from the west, but these fraudsters may just pollute the trust of the ordinary Nigerian with their evil ways.
Here’s one.
